Jewish groups have condemned a plan by authorities in the Ukrainian capital to build a hotel near the memorial to the Babi Yar massacre, one of the most tragic chapters of the Holocaust. Kiev legislators last week approved a plan to build dozens of hotels over the next decade, including a three-star hotel on the edge of the Babi Yar memorial, lawmakers said Thursday. Proponents of the decision say Kiev does not have enough hotels. Opponents plan to contest the decision as immoral. The Simon Wiesenthal Center in Israel decried the decision, calling it an example of “utter insensitivity” to the memory of the dead.
